COMMITMENT
The European Social Sciences Laboratory was created with the aim to promote, encourage, support and conduct social research that places the current state of European societies their diversity and wealth as the focus of study. The unstoppable advance of globalization, the complex constitutional process in which the European Union is immersed, the tensions arising from the complicated balance between the local and the global, and the difficulties that European states are facing in managing the societies contained in their respective territories, make it necessary for Social Sciences to go beyond the limited national-scale framework of analysis they have been operating with. Social research should observe and think human reality simultaneously in three overlapping levels, namely: local-regional scale, national scale and global scale.
Through its research and educational activities, the European Social Sciences Laboratory is conducting a work of critical analysis of the most relevant social issues of the current international scene. The aim is to contribute to public debate, enriching it through the provision of relevant data and information obtained from a scientific approach to social reality. In a context marked by the acceleration of social change, the growing complexity of the globalized world and the saturation of information, the task of providing a thoughtful and committed perspective on key public issues seems more necessary than never.
The members of the Laboratory address this objective through the organization and participation in public conferences, seminars and workshops, thereby seeking to cross the border between academia and society.
A first milestone in this line of work are the lectures by Emilio Lamo de Espinosa and Federico Mayor Zaragoza on the topic "Social Sciences and Research in Europe" in the University of Seville (link to video).
